First home owner grant Queensland

The first home owner grant helps eligible first time, new home buyers get into the property market.

Depending on your circumstances, you may qualify for a grant of $15,000 or $30,000 to put towards the cost of buying or building a new home in Queensland.

After 30 June 2026, the grant amount will revert to $15,000.

The grant applies only to new homes valued at less than $750,000 (including land).

There is no first home owner grant for buyers of established homes.

Differences between the first home owner grant and first home concessions

The first home owner grant is different to the first home transfer duty (stamp duty) concessions.

Transfer duty is a form of tax collected from people who buy, sell or transfer property in Queensland.

If you’re a first-time buyer purchasing an established home, you’re not eligible for the first home owner grant. However, you may qualify for a first home concession on your transfer duty.

If you’re a first-time buyer purchasing or building a new home, you may be entitled to a full concession (in addition to receiving the first home owner grant).
